High blood pressure (hypertension) is a common condition suffered by many Australians. In fact a survey by the Heart Foundation found one in three Australians aged between 30-65 years have had high blood pressure. Left untreated, high blood pressure may lead to major coronary events such as a heart attack, a stroke, heart failure or kidney disease. Most people experience no obvious symptoms of high blood pressure and generally feel well. The only way to detect changes is by my measuring your blood pressure regularly with a monitor. The good news is that if you have high blood pressure it can be controlled with lifestyle changes and/or medication.
If you haven’t had your blood pressure tested recently, visit Wizard Pharmacy today.
Blood pressure refers to the pressure of your blood in the arteries as it is pumped around the body by your heart. As the heart pumps the pressure rises (called systole) and then falls (called diastole) when the heart relaxes. The higher your blood pressure, the harder your heart has to work.
As a useful guide, normal blood pressure is less than 120/80 mmHg. Normal to high blood pressure is between 120/80 mmHg and 140/90 mmHg. High blood pressure is more than 140/90 mmHg.
Testing is quick, painless and easy, so visit a Wizard Pharmacy today and let our professional Pharmacist check your blood pressure.
Blood pressure is measured by wrapping an inflatable pressure bag around the upper arm. The bag is connected to a pressure measuring device. It is best to measure blood pressure when you are relaxed and sitting down, so we may ask you to wait a few minutes before the tests are done.
Your Wizard Pharmacist will check your blood pressure and then explain your results to you. We will offer you advice and support on how to manage your blood pressure and if necessary may refer you to your Doctor. We can also review any medications that you are taking to ensure that you are getting the most from your treatment.
